Etsy

I have the attention span of an ant.

I have an etsy store and although I had made a ton of stuff I hadnt updated in forever because of said attention span.

Anyway, Id appreciate it if you could check out my new listings. Ive added a ton of new stuff, and at least it would let you see what I have been up to over the last little while.

Major Adama...

This is my latest eye candy obsession.

Major Lee 'Apollo' Adama

The unfortunate thing is that Craig will not let me name our son Adama, even though I think its an awesome name.

The Year of Kat - 2008

Ok as I said in my post last night, this is a list of things I'd like to acheive or "goals" for 2008.

I dont beleive in making resolutions because there is no point in making them just because its the start of the year. Willpower can only come when your brain is clicked in adn ready to do the task at hand. So instead Im going to make a list of things that I want to accomplish over this next year.

1. Get into my post-graduate course for teaching
2. Become a volunteer for the Guides
3. Document more of my crafting and cooking
4. Learn how to knit properly (I knew how to knit but not cast on or cast off)
5. Complete 52 Craft projects
6. Explore the possibility of finding a way to deal with anger/problems etc.
7. Sell more of my handmade items
8. Fill my pound coin jar (about half way there)
9. Visit Vanessa in Canada
10. Be more outgoing and make more friends
11. Arrange a sewing group/meeting (kinda like a LAN but with sewing machines)
12. Convince Vonnie to allow me to make her wedding favours as a present to her

and finally

13. Climb the two hills behind my grans house. Ive done them once and want to experience it again. Absolutely beautiful view.

A slightly better post than last night...

Ok, today has beena  bit of a mix bag with regards to good and bad things happening.

The day starts off with me getting up to head to my mums to go get me some walking boots for my christmas. I wasnt due to start until 1 so we thought wed get it out of the way.

At 10 oclock before I leave I start to feel dizzy. Without any background, you would probably be like, So what? Well Ive been taking dizzy spells for as long as I can remember but more frequently within the last six months. Ive had two so far this week. Decided to go shoppinh anyway hoping it would pass. It didnt so foned into work.

The upside? I had THE BEST advisor in Go Outdoors who fitted me absolutely perfectly for a pair of boots and a pair of corrective insoles. Result.

Downside? I feel uber guilty about foning in sick as I always do but I just felt terrible. After we got the boots I got even worse so foned the doctors and made an emergency appointment for 5.20pm.

FINAL POSITIVE: I got home to find a big bundle of mail behind the door. One of which is from Jordanhill. Ive been invited for interview for the PGDE in Secondary Education for Modern Studies. I am so psyched!

Please send good energy and vibes

I dont normally post much about my family and things that are happening with them. I guess my family are just THE closest thing to me that I dont ever let anything show about them.

My family is large and very close. My dad is the second youngest of 11 (17 pregnancies in total) and he has 8 children himself. His sister had 10 children (1 stillborn) and the other siblings had a fair amount of kids too. Because my dad's children are spanned over two marriages and we dont see my older brothers because of a family rift we value family quite highly and in turn are very close.

My dad and his brothers and sisters are cursed with terrible ill health. My Aunty Cathy suffers from angina and diabetes and it was decided that she should have a heart bypass. This was carried out a few months ago and it turned out she required a double bypass but she came through it relatively unscathed and has been recovering rather well and her progess is amazing. One of her son's a few years ago found out he had testicular cancer but he came through it rather well and has since had his first child.

We found out about a week ago that her husband, my Uncle Larry has prostate cancer and they fear it is quite aggressive. He is in hospital tonight for an operation tomoro to investigate and hopefully remove and barring any complications he will get home on Christmas Day.

At any time of year this would be heartbreaking but just now it is particularly hard as the one ritual we have with them is to pop round on January the 1st at about 11 oclock and have wee (well ok he pours them quite large, he is Irish) dram (or vodka in him and I's case).

Whatever you believe can you please include him in your prayers/vibes/send him positive energy tonight. Im stil in denial and believe that everything is going to be OK because nothing can happen to my Uncle Larry but I will take any help thats going. :)

My first two bags ever

So I recently entered into the foray of bag making.

This first one was a test run almost. I made this with my sister so she could show me how to do it cos at first I thought it was completely  mind-boggling.

Ive been using this one for everyday use. Everyone in my work has been commenting on it because the fabric is from there so they all know it is handmade, lol. :)

This second bag I have made for my best friend in Canada. I made this one really big so she could use it for books etc for going to class. I really like this fabric and I made her this bag as I had already made her a laptop cosy with the same material. I kinda improvised with this one... instead of using exact measurements for the straps etc I just kinda went with it and did it by eye etc. It feels really sturdy and I think it looks good.

The lining is a tad :-S because I used a pillowcase and the original stitcing on that was a bit shoddy. Needless to say I wont be using that idea again lol.

Craigs presents from Florida :)

Craig got me the best presents from America:

Squeeeee

Craig just called me from the Bahamas. It was amazing to hear his voice.

He's only been gone since Wednesday and will be back on Tuesday but we havent been apart longer than a night or two since we started living together.

I also didnt think I would speak to him the whole time he was away, so just a wee fone call was lovely.

And strangely the whole time we were on the fone I didnt notice any of my side effects from my meds. Its like he made them disappear for 5 minutes.

I love him.

Im so frustrated...

Im getting so wound up at myself. Three reasons.

1. I cant remember fuck all... in order to do things I need notes. I need to constantly check arrangements to make sure I have double booked. Now I cant even remember what it was that I forgot to do before I left for the football. About five minutes remembered I hadnt brought my new pack of my pill... meaning that after uni, I have to go home to get them instead of back to the flat to write my muchly important dissertation.

2. I feel lost in my brain. Its like it doesnt belong to me anymore. I can hardly make sentences anymroe because Im lost for words. It could be the most simplest word in the world and I can't remember what the word is that Im looking for. Even with all my presentation in front of me yesterday I couldnt remember the word that I needed. THis normally results in me picking out completely random words and saying them out loud, and then going thats not right, and going back into my brain to find out what the right word is.

3. My temper is shocking. Ever since the really bad time I had at the end of 2005, I cannot hold my temper. i lose it for the smallest little thing. BUt not all the time. But when I feel wound up , I jsut flip out.

Im hoping this is all related to stress I really do. I just can't decide if this could be related to stress, and whether I should make an appointment with the doc to see what we can do.

Xenical confusion

Hi all,

I started my weightloss journey on the 5th December and started taking prescribed Xenical on the 9th January. Since I began I have never showed a gain. I have been consistently losing about 2lbs a week ( obviously this fluctuates over the month)

As part of taking Xenical they have a support line and send you a bunch of information etc. They also follow you through your journey for an update etc.

Now whilst on the fone she was giving me all the introductory bumff and told me that they expect me to be eating 40-50 grams of fat per day. She said that it is important I eat this amount as if I dont my body will go into starvation mode and store any fat I eat etc.

Now this is the confusing part.

I only eat 20g of fat maximum a day and yet I ve never shown a gain which would to me indicate that my body is not going into starvation mode. Ive eaten the same amount since I started taking the tablets.

I dont know if I can introduce another 20g of fat into my diet daily so im wondering if my body is different because it isnt reacting in the way she said it should. I dont want to deprive my body as Im just trying to be healthy but I dont wanna change what is a good healthy weight loss.

Buy Nothing Christmas : 2006 (very picture heavy)

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to update on how my Buy Nothing Christmas went.

First off I made all my own cards, recycling old cards and some with very simple designs. I wont post pics of them all cos there was like 15 different ones lol.

For my parents I had vowed to make a family calender. The closer it got to christmas the more I worried I became that they would hate it or think it was very childish. But they absolutely adored it. They thought it was very creative and were so proud that Id actually sat down and spent the time making something they would really love. Here are some pics of my favourite months. These were taken before I got my new camera :)

Calender )

For my parents I also painted some candles but didnt take any pictures of them as I really wasnt pleased but they were happy.

For my neice, I made a scrapbook. The pages were Family, mum and dad, little brother, pets, friends, what I like to do, when I grow up, my favourite things and rainy days (fun things for when bored. I wont post pics of these, but they can be seen in my own journal.

My sisters both got beautiful hand made items that I bought. My nephews I couldnt think of anything to make so they got store bought presents and my brothers in law both got joint gifts with my parents. My partner, I chose not to make anything for yet as I didnt wanna do it all in the first year, although for our anniversary or next christmas I will make an album of us together, like 1st christmas together or something.

For my neighbours my parents, my sister, and my boyfriend I made tubs with lots of tasty things inside. Each tub consisted of fudge, chocolate truffles, ginger truffles, mince pies, peppermint creams (Some dipped in chocolate), rice crispie cake and a good scottish sweet called tablet. All of the things were hand made and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. My neighbours in particular were so overjoyed and grateful that I could be so thoughtful. Heres some pictures...

Sweets )

All in all, Buy Nothing Christmas was very rewarding for me. At times I felt cheap and not creative, but it was totally worth it to see the looks on peoples faces when they received their gifts.
